Phil is back in control

Hi

My introduction about me.

I am 49 years of age. My name is Philip Morton I have been married 26 years and have 4 children aged 27, 23 & 22 our second eldest would have been 25. I run my own Plastering & Rendering business. I am on the tools & arranging works.

My hearing loss started gradually – unlike sight where you can more easily perceive that your eyesight is worsening. You can’t easily sense what you can’t hear, so to speak. As time went by, subtitles & increases in the TV volume became the norm. I thought the TVs were not as loud as they used to be or the people in the films were mumbling.

Two years ago, a noise started in my left ear – a buzz and a whistle sometimes in my right but constantly in my left. Unbeknown to myself I had started the hearing loss & tinnitus journey. A journey of appointments & referrals, culminating in NHS aids fitted after a hearing test in both ears, due to hearing loss with two Masking sounds – a wave and white noise. At each appointment, I saw a different person with differing advice – leaving a chasm of confusion. The tinnitus had not gone away – it had been replaced by the new masking sounds. My hearing wasn’t improved either as the masking noises I would use to keep the noise of the tinnitus at bay also lessened what I could hear.

Researching online I could see many groups, pages & sites with differing approaches & quite a lot of negativity about tinnitus gave me a feeling of despair.

The pandemic started, mask-wearing had me confused try to follow people’s speech – and the anxiety of entering a shop sent the Tinnitus levels even higher. I had now resorted to leaving my left aid in even during sleep with a wave masking noise on.

My daily thoughts were all consumed by tinnitus and getting through the day, dreading nighttime as this was the most difficult time. My wife supporting & helping me was a great comfort but it’s extremely difficult to explain the feeling & situation of despair I was experiencing. My mind was a fog of mishearing conversations, tinnitus & masking noises. Isolation was creeping in. I felt deafened by the noises and frustrated.

I had read some reviews about Rob at Trust Hearing. I booked an initial slot for advice on tinnitus this month. Meeting him has changed my life – my outlook on tinnitus and my hearing. His approach is passionate and supportive.

He assessed me & could see the methods I needed to change. He was not waiting with a range of aids set up ready to sell me a product. He felt strongly that I needed a specific set of aids with his expertise in setting them up. He left & retrieved a pair from his car. He fitted them:  it felt like the world had been turned up, but not to a degree where it was overwhelming me. My tinnitus was lessened as I could hear my surroundings far more clearly.

I have no masking noises now & a speaker pillow Rob advised me to buy. With these set up, he has given me the ability to hear my customers clearly on the phone, my family again &  my surroundings. I wear the aids all day & charge at night. If my Tinnitus is there, I put the speaker pillow on.

My tinnitus is still there but far less and each day it is getting better.bI feel my number-one thoughts are my family again. Tinnitus is not in my every thought. I sat outside last night listening to the movements of the trees which felt terrific & I saw Rob today.  Such a genuine person there to help & advise in a way that you feel so confident in his ability. You know you have found someone who actually gets you & clicks with all your concerns.

If you have tinnitus don’t give up. There may not be a cure but with the right advice, help and in my case aids – tinnitus will not control you, you will control it. Hope is there I am so grateful that I have after 2 years found a far brighter future. I feel like my old self again.

Thank you Rob – you have impacted not only my life but all my families.

“All the people who know me know that I always intensively research a product before I buy it, if its a car, laptop or smart phone. I want the best on the market at the best possible price. I can now say that I have found another great product and service which is unbeatable by any of the high street stores. After getting talking to my friend of many years about my hearing problems, she suggested that I visit Rob and May down at Ossy mills, which I did around six weeks ago. After an initial hearing test and consultation, which was informal and relaxed, Rob offered me a free trial of the hearing aids that he recommended for my particular problem.Since having the aids in I have felt like a new person, I have been back several times for fine tuning, advice and usually a good chat and laugh.

I would definitely recommend a visit to Rob and May to anyone before they splash out hundreds of pounds more than they should to the big name stores. What have you to lose?”

“I have been acquainted with R J Donnan Hearing Care for 5 years, since they opened up a clinic within our family business, Oswaldtwistle Mills Shopping Village.

I have been thinking about this for a long time, and thought as it’s ‘on my doorstep’, I’d pay a visit. As I have very little hearing in my left ear, Robert advised me to try the Phonak CROS II – which enabled me to hear sounds from both sides more or less equally. I did find the hearing improvement to be quite impressive, although I was a little self-conscious that they aids might be seen.

I then was able to try one Phonak V90 nano, a tiny pop in aid that no-one can see. The sound quality is impressive, but not perfect, however Robert assures me that the results will improve over the course of our next few appointments. Being able to try this aid for a week without having to buy it was invaluable to me, giving me the confidence that I was making the best decision.

I would recommend R J Donnan for value, service and the trial service offered.”

“The first of my visits with Mr Donnan was to fix and adjust my old plaster covered, DIY hearing aids – my ‘self-diagnosed’ fix for many years. I had a test and I still did not think I needed much correction to my hearing, never mind new hearing aids. Yes, I thought I could just carry on – day after day, then year after year with my ‘make do’ hearing aids.

I elected for the no pressure free trial. And I mean no pressure!! To my surprise, I didn’t know the technology had advanced so much. The following after-care appointments were completely at my convenience – for any adjustments, (which I very much advise you to take advantage of) and yes, there was an small adjustment needed for me. The very noticeable difference with my ‘new hearing’ during the free trial was that I forgot what it was like to hear properly! … for instance, after a few days of using my trial hearing aids and then removing them one evening – WOW!!… then you know you really do have a serious hearing problem. i was thinking completely the opposite before the trial.

Even the years of tinnitus has gone !!!

I eventually went for buying my free trial aids that where recommended for me (Phonak Virto V30 Power CIC), with the 5 years battery and warranty package, it was well within my budget. It worked out less than £1 per day, over the 5 years for everything. To me, well worth it !

My next appointment is 3 months from now – all part of the free aftercare. The appointments are always relaxed and informal. Anyone just ignoring their hearing problems does not correct their hearing. Doing something about it does!

The no-pressure free trial gives you no excuses to check your hearing out.”

I have been fitted with two sets of hearing aids by Rob. The latest ones are Phonak. I am extremely happy with the service given at the Oswaldtwistle Mills branch. Thorough hearing tests, friendly, courteous service and Rob leaves no stone unturned to ensure that I am completely happy and comfortable with my hearing aids before paying for them. I tried them at home for two weeks and if anything needed altering Rob would do this. Also refurbished my first set of hearing aids free of charge to ensure that I have a spare pair should anything go wrong with the upgraded ones I currently wear. I would recommend Rob and the staff at the Oswaldtwistle branch without any hesitation. I am a very satisfied customer who will continue to return.

Thank you.

Wearing hearing aids doesn’t have to make you feel ‘different’.
It can take a while getting used to wearing them, and ‘tweaking’ them to suite your hearing loss, but for me I don’t know what I would’ve done without meeting Rob and his team.
My hearing loss is, on the scale of things quite complex, and Rob has had the patience of a saint with me!
I stumbled across his service whilst shopping in Oswaldtwistle Mills with my parents at the time and was feeling pretty low as I’d been trying NHS hearing aids without much success. I suffer terribly with Tinnitus and stress makes it much worse.
When I was referred to Blackburn Royal Hospital through my Doctor for hearing aids, each time I paid them a visit, they would ‘tweak’ them slightly, but as soon as left the hospital I knew they still weren’t right and I had to wait several weeks at a time to receive another appointment for another ‘tweak’. This really upset my system and I was feeling desperate.
From the moment Rob came to visit me in my own home, I was made to feel at ease and he continued to visit me until I felt comfortable with my choice of hearing aids and use of them. I can confidently say that if you need an appointment with him at Oswaldtwistle Mills, it can be arranged within a few days.
I have been wearing them now for 4 years and unless I tell people, they would never know. In my mind, I have got that reassurance that I’m not on my own and Rob and his Team are always there for support. I would not hesitate to recommend them.”

Rebecca’s New Analogue Hearing Aid helps improve hearing (our new happy patient in Lancashire)

RJDhearingcare

A patient’s story:

My name is Rebecca Smith and I was born with a condition that is very rare (affecting 1 in 40,000). It is called Klippel-Feil Syndrome. It affects predominately my neck spine, my mobility and my ears. From birth my neck is much shorter than it should be with webbing at either side of it and my head is held slightly to my right. X-rays showed a massive fusion of all the 7 vertebrae of my neck, except for 1 small area where I have slight movement so I was never able to look over my shoulder or extend my neck at all. Also from birth I have deafness in both ears, profound deafness in the left and moderate loss in the right.

During all my child and adult life, despite having bad ear infections and a perforated left ear drum I was very happy with my NHS Analogue Hearing Aids. I could hear sounds loudly, clearly and comfortably – it felt just like normal hearing. My hearing aids were like my best friend and helped me to overcome my insecurities about the negative effect of my neck on my life. I panicked whenever I thought I’d lost them around the house! Then the change over to Digital took place and the NHS Digitals I tried were just awful. Sounds were bad quality, distorted and changed constantly in different surroundings. I felt dizzy and disorientated. I continued hearing Analogues until they eventually stopped working. I had 2 of the last batch of NHS Analogues from about 12-14 years ago. They had lasted such long time and that is another advantage of using Analogues – they last ages!

Last summer, with no Analogues that worked properly I found an Audiologist who said he stocked the old Analogue type. But I was very disappointed when he more or less said he would only sell me Digitals at a too expensive price for me: £600-£1000 or over! I felt disillusioned and depressed because I missed my Analogues so much. I was struggling with no aids at all. I didn’t think I’d find any Audiologists who would help. Then I discovered R.J. Donnan Hearing Care, based at Oswaldtwistle Mills. Right away I felt comfortable and at ease, with Rob and May. Rob gave me some very good advice for ear care as well as for hearing aids;   he  explained  that  I  may  be able to have my perforated ear drum mended, which in the past no one else had mentioned. And I have now got an appointment with E.N.T  clinic to learn more about that, thanks to Rob,  the Senior Audiologist. He was very caring, kind, empathetic, understanding, patient and nothing was too much trouble. He tried me on a 7 days trial of Phonak Naida I UP Digitals Aids. He bore in mind that I liked the behind-the-ear types first and although they weren’t suitable or right for me, Rob was very understanding and really listened to every word I said.  Next time I saw him, I couldn’t believe my eyes! Rob had found me on Analogue Hearing Aid! Analogues have been discontinued about 10-14 years ago and as I had researched on the Internet – Hundreds of people still love Analogues but cannot buy them anywhere.  Even  in  America a lot of previous users of Analogues cannot adjust to Digitals and have  suffered  psychologically  and  physically  from  having  no  alternative  to  Digital Hearing Aids.

I had tried Audiologists around my area and every single one of them didn’t want to know about Analogues. Rob is the only Audiologist I’ve met who cares about people! Not just the newest Digital Hearing Aids. And he will work as hard as it takes to find the best hearing aids to suit you. He will always invest his time into making you as happy and as suited to your new hearing aids and you don’t  pay a  penny until  you  are entirely  satisfied.   No  stress, pressure selling or hassle! Rob’s Analogue Hearing Aid which I now own is a FEIE 209. It has only cost me £295 – that’s including a beautiful hearing aid mould of the highest quality, which actually moulds itself snugly inside the ear. It is the most comfortable ear mould I have ever worn and I am confident that there is no feedback sounds as the mould is such on excellent fitting. Comparing that cost to £600 –£1000 over from other Audiologists! Nothing compares to Rob at R.J. Donnan Hearing Care.  Rob has a passion for wonderful customer service and amazing prices, he really doesn’t sell hearing aids  just because they are the most expensive or the latest technology. He offers you great support and the best hearing care for you. And for other Analogue lovers, Robert Donnan Hearing Care at Oswaldtwistle Mills is definitely your home. I am now receiving excellent free after care and appointments are always  available anytime.
I’m so glad that I have found Rob and I’ve finally found the support I so badly needed.
